06/01/03 Systems Developer (Richard Jones) joins the Theses Alive! project.
15/01/03 Software evaluation for choice of platform begins. Contenders include the established ETD-db software from Virginia Tech, the versatile EPrints software from the University of Southampton and the new kid on the block; DSpace from MIT.
26/02/03 The TA! Team attend the EFX project workshop in Manchester.
20/04/03 DSpace picked for the TA! platform of choice.
01/05/03 New Project Officer (Theo Andrew) joins the TA! Team...
14/05/03 ...and is immediately whisked off to the UKSG OAI seminar in London.
20/05/03-23/05/03 The TA! Team attend the ETD-2003 conference held this year in Berlin. The UK is well represented by a strong Scottish contingent including RGU and Glasgow.
29/05/03 The JISC IPR workshop causes a few people to break out in a sweat when the copyright issue is addressed.
23/06/03 RJ and TA go to the FAIR/X4L Programme Meeting in Warwick.
25/06/03 Fresh from the break, Richard begins coding new shiny things for DSpace.
14/07/03 Baseline survey report finished.
30/07/03 Richard finishes the first phase of coding and releases the EUL-DSpace Add-On v0.1(alpha).
28/08/03 Richard finishes writing up the Comparative Evaluation of ETD-db and DSpace for submission to JISC.
03/09/03-05/09/03 Theses Alive! team present their work so far at the OA Forum in Bath
11/09/03 Theses Alive! team meet with the DSpace@MIT and DSpace@Cambridge representitives at Glasgow University Library.
23/10/03 Advocacy event held in Edinburgh University Library to introduce both Theses Alive! and related project SHERPA to Librarians and Academics of the university. (See Conference Papers).
27/10/03 Theo was invited to give a presentation on Electronic Theses at the Leeds University Scholarly Publication Forum (See Conference Papers).
28/10/03-29/10/03 Theo attends the JISC Sustainability Planning workshop in London.
03/11/03 Theo and Richard introduce Theses Alive! and related project SHERPA to the Scottish Agricultural College in an afternoon presentation.
10/11/03 eFair E-Theses Sub-Cluster meeting in The Robert Gordon University Library in Aberdeed. The aim was to reach an agreement on a basic metadata set for E-Theses in the UK.
21/11/03 eFail Cluster meeting at Glasgow University Library, attended by Theo and Richard.
11/12/03 Version 0.2 of the EUL-DSpace Add-On is released just before Richard goes away on his Christmas holiday.
22/01/04 The Theses Alive! team attend the RGU organised E-Theses Workshop at the University of London Library, where Richard presents the recommended core metadata set for E-Theses along with Richard Milne from RGU.
02/03/04 Version 0.2.1 of the EUL-DSpace Add-On is released just before Richard goes away to the DSpace User Group Meeting.
10/03/04 Richard attends the DSpace User Group Meeting in Boston, MA, where he presents the work of Theses Alive! and the v0.2.1 release of the EUL-DSpace Add-On.
18/03/04 Richard and Theo attend the eFAIR cluster meeting in Bath.
30/04/04 Richard is invited by the DSpace developers to become a founder member of the new DSpace Committers Group, who will form the core of future DSpace development. The offer is gratefully accepted.
22/03/04 Richard attends the EPrints UK Workshop in Oxford to give a presentation on Technical Issues for Repository Software.
14/05/04 The whole Theses Alive! team attends the EPrints UK Workshop in Edinburgh. Richard gives a slightly extended version of his presentation from Oxford the previous month; Theo talked about policies and workflow needed to set up EPrint repositories; John spoke about Digital Preservation and what is being done about it.
27/05/04 The Edinburgh Research Archive (ERA) built from DSpace with the EUL-DSpace Add-On provisionally goes live in a pilot phase in time for the ETD 2004 conference.
03/06/04-05/06/04 Richard and Theo travel to Lexington, Kentucky for the ETD 2004 conference. Richard presents at the DSpace Round Table event and is later asked to be involved in the formation of a DSpace Implementation Group for the NDLTD. Theo runs a two hour poster and demonstration session of ERA.
16/06/04-17/06/04 Prof Pablo Bocskowski, a researcher from MIT comes to Edinburgh to talk to the Theses Alive! team and associated colleagues about DSpace, the Edinburgh Research Archive, and digital library practices in general.
06/07/04-07/07/04 The Theses Alive! team and a number of other representitives not just from Edinburgh University Library but from the whole University of Edinburgh attend the JISC Joint Programme Meeting in Brighton. Richard and Theo perform a short demonstration of the Edinburgh Research Archive and present a poster on the outputs, outcomes and hoped benefits of the project.
09/07/04 Theo is invited by JISC Legal to write a legal briefing paper on IPR in E-Theses.
29/07/04 The E-Theses sub-cluster meeting was held at the Univesity of Edinburgh, in the Medical School. Much discussion centred around the JISC Legal paper to be written by Theo.
26/08/04 Tapir 0.3, to provide E-Theses functionality to DSpace 1.2 is released.
